Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and to the Minister of International Cooperation Deepak Obhari, photographed above with Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, was close at hand to welcome the Chilean Ambassador Eugenio Ortega Riquelme to the Viva Chile event.
Imagin Music brought the crowd to its feet.
In tradition of Calgary's western hospitality, Chilean Ambassador Eugenio Ortega Riquelme was presented with a White Cowboy Hat, an internationally recognized symbol of the city of Calgary that has been presented to visiting politicians, celebrities, and athletes since World War II. Ambassador Ortega accepted the White Hat with a "Yahoo" as his wife Carmen Frei looks on and the crowd cheered.

100 years 1000 dreams
(Photos by Ricardo Alvarez)In commemoration of 100 years of Salvador Allende, the CCCAC staged a musical journey to the south of the world at the Calgary Maxbell Theatre on June 28.
The show began with a musical video presentation that showcased President Salvador Allende's political life to his death following Chile's brutal military coup.
The commemoration of Salvador Allende's birth was followed by an ensemble of singers, musicians, and dancers that gave various performances that entertained both Chileans and Canadians alike.
The event was attended by dignitaries that included Chilean Ambassador Eugenio Ortega Riquelme accompanied by his wife Carmen Frei, and MP Deepak Obhrai who is also the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and to the Minister of International Cooperation. Chilean Deputy Marco Enriquez-Ominami also made his presence via video.
AUCAMAPU Chilean Folk Ensemble made Chileans proud with their stage performance of Chile's national dance of the Cueca.
It was a family affair as members of Viento Andino gave the crowd various interpretations of some of Chile's most beloved folklore songs including a tribute to Chilean folklore icon Violeta Parra.
