Women's Day

(Photos by Miriam Machuca & Jessee Wise)

It was a night of high emotions as homage was paid to Chilean women in commemoration of the March 8th UN International Woman's Day on March 5, 2010 in Calgary.

The gathering that was hosted by the Chilean Canadian Community Association of Calgary also served as an opportunity to inform members of the situation generated by the earthquake in Chile on February 27.

A selection of short videos were displayed showing images of the history and plight of women around the world that led to an international movement. Videos were also shown of the devastation caused by the earthquake in Chile measuring 8.8 on the Richter scale that was followed by a horrific Tsunami.

But the night was brightened up with good spirits as the women were presented with roses and community members mingled.
